The holidays are a time of fun, shopping and family for the average person. By now plans have been made, activities prepared and expectations set. With all that’s going on, how do you plan to take care of yourself during these events? Did you remember to leave time for the much-needed rest and relaxation that you’ll need to keep going? If you didn’t, there is no better time than the present to figure out how you’ll meet your own needs during the holidays.

Plan Your Time with Intention

The holidays often fill calendars quickly. Without a plan, you might find yourself rushing from one event to another, leaving little time for rest.

  • Set realistic expectations: Decide which events are most important and which you can skip or attend briefly.

  • Schedule downtime: Block out time for yourself just like any other appointment.

  • Use a calendar: Write down commitments and reminders to avoid last-minute stress.

By planning your time, you create space for relaxation and reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Prioritize Sleep and Rest

Sleep often suffers during the holidays due to late nights and busy days. Lack of rest affects mood, focus, and immunity.

  • Maintain a consistent sleep schedule: Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time daily.

  • Create a calming bedtime routine: Reading, gentle stretches, or meditation can help signal your body to wind down.

  • Limit screen time before bed: The blue light from devices can interfere with your natural sleep cycle.

Even short naps during the day can help recharge your energy if you’re feeling drained.

Take Time for Hobbies and Interests

Amid holiday demands, don’t forget what brings you joy.

  • Schedule time for creative activities: Painting, writing, or crafting can be relaxing.

  • Read for pleasure: Escape into a good book to recharge.

  • Listen to music or podcasts: Choose content that uplifts or calms you.

Engaging in hobbies nurtures your spirit and balances holiday busyness.
